Week 5: San Sebastián

I will share my highlights of the week again after having crossed the border to Spain:

  • Being confronted with a culture I know little about;
  • Struggling with communicating because I resist as much as possible the temptation to go the easy way and speak English;
  • Finding a nice yoga studio, 802 yoga, and practicing every day;
  • Chatting with Aldatz, the friendly hostel founder at Koba hostel, and getting to know more about the place and city;
  • Walking up Mount Urgull and enjoying the view;
  • Starting to feel a bit fed up with eating dinner alone;
  • Meeting Lili and Yannic and jamming with them and their guitars;
  • Playing for the first time along side an electric guitar (Yannic). And then taking it into the streets! We made enough cash for 2 cold beers 🙂 ;
  • Going out for pintxos (tapas) with people from the hostel;
  • Meeting my host family. I can hardly say a few words in Spanish to the landlady. Nevertheless, her daughter visiting from the Netherlands can translate the basic house rules into English;
  • Enjoying a picnic in sweet solitude by the ocean near Zurriola beach, connecting to nature and watching the surfers.

And here are things I’m excited about that might happen soon:

  • Starting Spanish school;
  • Taking surf lessons;
  • Meeting new people.
